About the work of Ann Stoehr ( then Ann-Marie Selvidge)
by Andrea Edel, Art Historian ( original text in German )
"17869",
Ink on Paper, 150 x 120 cm,1998
Ann Stoehr has the unique ability to draw intuitive, fast and precise.
Due to her unique elastic imagination, she depicts people from unusual perspectives ( from above, from below ).
"Droben",
Ink on Paper, 20 x 15 cm, 1999
Contextually her representations are intertwined in an open, wide translatable frame of reference, leaving room for complex interpretations.
A personal level of content based on her own biography is connecting itself to a general human relevance, leading to another level of linguistic analysis
( with inscribed categorizing terms, own poetic texts about thinking and feeling ).
"Double
Heads:, Ink on Paper, 20 x 15 cm, 1999
The drawings of Ann Stoehr are very clear in their complexity and openness, reduced, simple, precise and quickly produced as results of punctual links of ideas, emotions, philosophical thoughts and political opinion, in some case of impressive symbolics.
Ann Stoehr is extremely versatile.Drawing on almost everything, adapting the line and technique to the format and texture of the supportive material, she hangs several drawings on top of each other, framed and unframed, or glues her sheets directly to the wall and integrates them.

Ann Stoehr has lived in Kaiserslautern between 1998-2002. During this time we put a show together in the Fruchthalle Kaiserslautern.
As an art historian I am connected to the artist through various projects like improvised lectures to drawing-performances, texts to specific drawings, etc.
